I started the show in response to a need to connect with other women who were in similar roles to me, also leading organisations. As an Executive Director of a start-up, not-for-profit which was launched during Covid, it definitely felt lonely at the top. I realised that I needed community around me to help me with navigating leadership and building a strong team in a digital, unconnected world sprung on us by the pandemic.
Everyone thinks you have it figured, and some of us do - some of the time. The truth is that I was (and still am) pretty much on my own. And the very people I spent the most time with – my team – are the last people I felt I could talk to about the challenges, frustrations and highlights of everyday leadership.
And that’s where Women on Top Talks & Tales comes in – it’s a space to lean in before you freak out. Through our ‘Talks’ and ‘Tales’, you’ll understand more about what it’s like, and what it takes to be a Woman on Top.
Every 2 weeks in just 10 minutes on Women on Top Talks, I’ll take on one issue that I’ve experienced and found that women rarely talk about; like imposter syndrome and how to avoid it, what it means to not be the ‘angry black woman’, how to handle sexual harassment, negotiating money matters at work, what to wear while you’re climbing up that ladder and how to manage GenZs.Once a month, I’ll take you on a 30-minute storytelling journey through the life of one of the women in my network who are crushing it in their spaces. Women on Top Tales is a 30-minute storytelling documentary set to the kind of music I love - upbeat and funky. It showcases women in leadership and inspires those who want to be.
Episodes will be available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud and Podbean.
